Simply put, if we do not change the upward trajectory for young girls across our cities, we fail entire communities that will depend on and be influenced by them.

 

It is the hard reality we face at the Utopia Connect Foundation that in order to change communities, it begins with looking at root issues and we think we can make greater incremental gains if we train our time and attention and begin with a deeper investment in women and girls.

This year, a great deal of our focus will be placed on Literacy and we particularly wish to target girls. We are prioritizing early reading and writing interventions because it is a significant marker and predictor of if a child will become a successful adult. We are also willing to do more to foster literacy-rich environments through advocacy and action; helping to increase access to resources for learning.
